Speaking up against our would be soviet overlords.

1. Go to program files and delete the foxit directory

2. search you computer for 'npFoxitReaderPlugin.dll' and 'FoxitReaderOCX.ocx', delete any copies of them that you find.

3. Install Adobe Acrobat Reader. (now just adobe reader); it will automatically reclaim all associations previously taken up with foxit

4. Install your PDF viewer of choice (SumatraPDF recommended) and set it to be your default PDF viewer. Any association that your PDF viewer fails to claim (because it is not as intrusive) will fall back to acrobat reader.

What's wrong with Foxit Reader? I have used it for long. Unlike Adobe Reader, Foxit Reader is secure, customizable and easy to deploy on all Windows based systems.

And doesn't uninstall properly, hence the guide on how to uninstall it in case you want to.

For example, because you want to install the superior SumatraPDF program

PDF readers seem to be malware magnets. I use Foxit and disable its ability to connect to the internet. It is set to read offline docs only.

For PDF Reader, I choose from Sumatra and Foxit (unlike Adobe for its slow speed).  Due to my work nature, I have to deal with lots pdf files. What I most appreciate is Foxit always show me clear presentation. Hope it can be better!

My spam alarm goes off when a thread such as this pops up again after 18 months dormant.

Anyone here 'just passing through?'

[saves me looking]....

Anyone here 'just passing through?'

You know, I had assumed this was just a random thread necro but now that you said that I started thinking and looking and I think you are right. This is spam.

This thread was necroed by the following post:

1. The above sounds like a sales pitch

2. has jack to do with the topic of this thread.

3. this user registered specifically to make this post (check dates)

4. user has not made a single post since.

5. This is in fact his only post ever here

6. he did not respond to any replies

7. and his/her profile is blank

I'm kinda glad it got necro'd, been thinking about switching pdf reader, and Sumatra sounds like a good candidate to give a try. So, thanks berniece_wei, I'll be giving Sumatra and not Foxit a try.

It boggles my mind that a program is being recommended that comes bundled with the infamous "Ask Toolbar"

If you truly need an alternate PDF tool, I would highly recommend Nitro PDF reader:

http://legacy.nitropdf.com/free/

 Key benefits
Create PDF from 300+ file types
Comment, review, and collaborate on PDF files and other common solutions
Fill, save, and submit PDF forms
Enable/disable JavaScript™ and control Web-based interactivity from PDF files

Recommended by whom?

This is a thread on how to get rid of foxit (which is the program bundled with ask bar according to your picture).

I recommended SumatraPDF which is FOSS and I just tested and verified it is bundled with nothing.

Foxit Reader is my first choice of pdf software.

Look at that, another post that:

1. Extols foxit despite doing such being irrelevant to the discussion.

2. Made by a person who just registered to make this post.

3. Made by a person who has not made any other posts before or after, leaving total post count at 1. What a coincidence.

Why uninstall Foxit Reader? I never thought that.

Third shill account in a row.

Registered to make this one post, no posts before or after coming in here and shilling for foxit.

there's an unpatched security hole.

in any case, firefox will soon make pdf readers fairly redundant at least if you like reading them in browsers via plugins anyway..

---

never realised libreoffice can open and edit pdf files..... doh

though.. libreoffice does have its own problem. crap autoupdate. crap file association. bit unwieldy for just reading pdf.

--

foxit nowadays does have an uninstall thing.

sumatra is great for protable but just as vulnerable as foxit, thought nothing is as bad as adobe!

I always install (for my customers) and recommend NitroPDF which I orgiinally duiscovered when searching for Windows 64-bit-native alternatives YEARS ago and havn't had a single problem EVER...if you ignore my frequent beta testing! very minimalist and properly integrated with major browsers (the lack of love for opera makes me sad but small sacrifice for their wonderful support of IE 64-bit and waterfox) relevant Msft Office components and the Windows printer model

secure it with EMET and you're good to go!!
