Obama address the UN 09-23-2009

From the whitehouse, you can get a transcript of obama's address to the UN:

http://www.whitehouse.gov/the_press_office/Remarks-by-the-President-to-the-United-Nations-General-Assembly/

Excerpt from address to UN (bolding and italicizing done by me - nothing removed or changed or reordered in this portion of the speech. Portions before and after dealt with other issues, such as climate change):

I will also continue to seek a just and lasting peace between Israel, Palestine, and the Arab world.  (Applause.)  We will continue to work on that issue.  Yesterday, I had a constructive meeting with Prime Minister Netanyahu and President Abbas.  We have made some progress.  Palestinians have strengthened their efforts on security.  Israelis have facilitated greater freedom of movement for the Palestinians.  As a result of these efforts on both sides, the economy in the West Bank has begun to grow.  But more progress is needed.  We continue to call on Palestinians to end incitement against Israel, and we continue to emphasize that America does not accept the legitimacy of continued Israeli settlements.  (Applause.)

The time has come -- the time has come to re-launch negotiations without preconditions that address the permanent status issues:  security for Israelis and Palestinians, borders, refugees, and Jerusalem.  And the goal is clear:  Two states living side by side in peace and security -- a Jewish state of Israel, with true security for all Israelis; and a viable, independent Palestinian state with contiguous territory that ends the occupation that began in 1967, and realizes the potential of the Palestinian people.  (Applause.)

As we pursue this goal, we will also pursue peace between Israel and Lebanon, Israel and Syria, and a broader peace between Israel and its many neighbors.  In pursuit of that goal, we will develop regional initiatives with multilateral participation, alongside bilateral negotiations.

Now, I am not naïve.  I know this will be difficult.  But all of us -- not just the Israelis and the Palestinians, but all of us -- must decide whether we are serious about peace, or whether we will only lend it lip service.  To break the old patterns, to break the cycle of insecurity and despair, all of us must say publicly what we would acknowledge in private.  The United States does Israel no favors when we fail to couple an unwavering commitment to its security with an insistence that Israel respect the legitimate claims and rights of the Palestinians.  (Applause.)  And -- and nations within this body do the Palestinians no favors when they choose vitriolic attacks against Israel over constructive willingness to recognize Israel's legitimacy and its right to exist in peace and security. (Applause.)

We must remember that the greatest price of this conflict is not paid by us.  It's not paid by politicians.  It's paid by the Israeli girl in Sderot who closes her eyes in fear that a rocket will take her life in the middle of the night.  It's paid for by the Palestinian boy in Gaza who has no clean water and no country to call his own.  These are all God's children.  And after all the politics and all the posturing, this is about the right of every human being to live with dignity and security.  That is a lesson embedded in the three great faiths that call one small slice of Earth the Holy Land.  And that is why, even though there will be setbacks and false starts and tough days, I will not waver in my pursuit of peace.  (Applause.)

My Impressions:

So... america does not accept the legitimacy of "Israeli settlements" (the ones the israeli army forcibly evicts?) it seems ethnic cleansing is OK as long as Arabs do it to Israelies. While in israel, arabs are free to live in arab settlements and villages.

Also, end the OCCUPATION? israel withdrew... but wait, he wants them to have a continguous territory... meaning that the west bank and gaza must be connected. That means israel MUST be bisected into north and south israel. Any many israeli cities like sderot (which he mentions) must be cleansed of israelies.

Let me say that again.. Obama is calling for the splitting of Israel, to grant the palastinians a continguous territory. And end "Israeli occupation" by returning "occupied territories".

So... the United states will be doing israel a FAVOR by forcing it to "respect the legitimate claims" which includes bisecting israel and forcing it to open its borders to terrorists (because it is so cruel to not give unfettered access to your country to people who refuse to build on their own and want to build their economy on your back).

Finally... oh the poor palastinians, they have NO CLEAN WATER (lie, they do) and no country to call his own (israel unilaterally withdrew from all territories years ago... and they have made a state, one which is failing due to their own corruption and insistence on fighting israel) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State_of_Palestine

here is a map of the region showing the gaza strip and west bank.

Okay, now I am having a hard time waiting for 2012 to end his occupation of the White House.

Holy crap. Talk about pouring fuel on the fire!

Okay, now I am having a hard time waiting for 2012 to end his occupation of the White House.

If this speech turns into anything more than rhetoric, then you won't be the only one.

Sounds like Daniel's prophecy is about to come true if this continues...

"And HE (anti-Christ) shall confirm the covenant (peace treaty) with many for one week (seven years) and in the middle of the week (3 1/2 years) he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to stop (unveil his true motivation) and for the overspreading of abomination HE shall make it deslolate... "  Daniel 9

There's supposed to be (according to scripture) a seven year peace agreement with a temple built for the Jews.  Let's see if this happens.  If the Jews were allowed to build their temple as they want, maybe that will be the bone to get this agreement ratified.  I've never seen so many bible teachers and Pastors excited about the signs of the times like I'm seeing most recently and I've been studying this on and off for decades.

Think about the timing (especially the 3 1/2 years)  and think about how many years Obama has left.  Could work.  Time will tell.

"When you therefore shall see the abomination of desolation spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place (whoso read this let him understand) Then let them which be in Judea flee to the mountains"    Jesus in Matt 24:!5

I wonder why everybody always worries about "the occupation" and never about the reasons for it.

Stop the attacks and the occupation will end anyway. That's how it's done.

It's hard to believe that 87% of Americas Jewry could vote for the most anti-Israeli President in the history of the United States.

Or why nobody is concerned about the USA's occupation of Texas and other mexican territories... (or any other country in the world for that matter)

They are safe.

(For the moment.)

Or why nobody is concerned about the USA's occupation of Texas and other mexican territories...

The US annexed those territories. Those annexations were legal under international law since the US are not a Jewish country.

Although I do wonder why Obama and the Democrats, so worried about occupation, do not start with Texas and California.

I have a vision for a vicious plan for Canada and Mexico, should the US dare to vote right-wing again in the future.

A very small part of Manitoba would be declared part of Mexico.

Mexico can then demand a land connection through the US to that part. After all, Mexicans are entitled to a continuous territory. Canada can rightly demand that the US create such a land bridge.

And the best thing is, we can use the opportunity to end the occupation of Texas and California and return those territories to Mexico!

(I finally understand the joy of peace activism. It's a fantastic hobby. But being who I am, I choose the great satan over the little satan!)

How many "Palestinians" flee to Sudan trying to escape genocide at the hand of the evil Zionists?

You lot need to take a lesson in History, Israel has only existed since 1949, it was created by the UN, with the support of countries such as the US and the UK. The people who where living on this land at the time were forceably removed, and have been refugees ever since.

Israel is a state based on peoples religion, not ethnicity. A majority of people migrating to Israel are Jewish, not ISRALITES, these were the inhabitians of Israel, and these were the so called chosen people.

It is a ridiculas premise on which to create a new country, and make many people homeless into the bargin. I bet if someone turned up tomorrow and took you home and land away from you, with no compensation, you to would be upset. The people of Israel are not better than the rest of us, and do not deserve to be given this mantle, after all we are all created equal in God's eyes.

Most of the people settling in Israel are European, not North Africian, so it would be fair to say they are the party who is in the wrong.

That is a lie.

Israel has existed since 1400 BCE.

It has been under foreign rule for a long time (like, for example, Ireland).

The people who lived there (Jews and Arabs) were not forceably removed. They fled when Arab armies invaded. Heck, you can still find Israeli newspapers from 1947 where the Jews implored the local Arabs to stay and defend the newly-independent country.

Contrary to popular opinion, a few hundred thousand Jews did not face millions of Arabs and then decided to add more local enemies to the mix by "forceably removing them from their homes", nor did the Jews have such great power. They barely survived the war.

Jews are one of the tribes of Israel. You didn't even know that???

Most of the people settling in Israel are European, not North Africian, so it would be fair to say they are the party who is in the wrong.

Most of the people _living_ in Israel (I do not appreciate the use of different words when the actors are Jews!) are North-African and "Arab" Jews, not Europeans (or American).

You should really, really learn more about the subject before you try to discuss it.

Some simple facts that you can easily verify:

1. The Jews are the major remaining tribe of the Israelites. (In fact the Jews are remnants of three tribes, Judah, Benjamin, and Simeon.)

2. Most Jews in Israel are local or from the rest of the Middle-East. A (large) minority are descendants from recent immigrants from Europe and elsewhere in the western world.

3. The local Arabs were not "expelled" or "forced from their homes", they fled when the Arab armies attacked. Israel didn't have the power to start a local war against the local Arabs nor did Israel have the expectation that it could win a war against local Arabs and the invading armies. That much should be obvious to you. Or how powerful do you think the Jews were, four years after the Holocaust, their numbers reduced by six million, facing a British-trained and British-led Transjordanian army and the Egyptians???

Please don't walk around making nonsense claims like "Israelis are Europeans". It's simply not true and you are not doing anyone a favour, except perhaps white supremacists.

You do know that the last owners of the land was Great Briton? They gave the land to the nation of Israel so in effect Europeans left the land, the Jews from Europe were moving there after their land and property was taken from them. Remember that little thing called WWII? Being black and jewish I remember when the Etheopian Jews migrated to israel. Last I checked they were neither European or white, but the way you rewrite history it is hard to tell.

And before Britain the land was part of Turkey (the Ottoman Empire). That's when the Zionists started buying it.

I don't know where the legend comes from that Jews, especially Middle-Eastern Jews, are "Europeans". But it stands in interesting contrast to the pre-WW2 legend that all Jews were "orientals".

Apparently Jews were orientals when it was fashionable to be "white" and then became white when it became fashinable to be non-white. (Which adds to the irony of Jews being a "race" before WW2 while people are now refusing to acknowledge that they are a people.)

Popular mythology is that Jews lived peacefully and without discrimination under Arab rule in the past until they suddenly vanished around 1900.

(Israel might be the only land in the world that was Turkish until it became Arab when Jews bought it.)

Thanks for posting the article Taltimer.

These are all God's children. And after all the politics and all the posturing, this is about the right of every human being to live with dignity and security. That is a lesson embedded in the three great faiths that call one small slice of Earth the Holy Land.

As far as I can tell Obama is an empty suit that speaks out of both sides of his mouth depending on who the audience is, but sometimes his teleprompter says the truth such as is here in the first 2 statements.

Unfortunately, that truth fades into nothing with the 3rd statement. The right of every human being to live with dignity and security is the lesson imbedded only in Christianity.

Islam and modern Judaism know no such thing.
